"Life Itself Is a Quotation"

When Jorge Luis Borges famously said, "Life itself is a Quotation," I think he hit the nail on the head.  Whether it be a strong quotation or proverb that sticks in your mind long after you read it, words have the power to influence action.  Below are a collection of some of my favorite quotes that I also feel directly relate to Arrive's goals: The way you do anything is the way you do everything - Anonymous

So it should come as no surprise that the unhealthiness of our world today is in direct proportion to our inability to see it as a WHOLE. - Peter Senge

We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. - William Durant

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen Jay Gould

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. - Winston Churchill

There are those who have a few chances to realize incredible and life changing experiences.  And though they don’t repeat them, they carry with them a growth of personal philosophy for the rest of their lives.  And there are those for whom a taste is never enough, for whom the lust of adventure is nearly insatiable, and if you add to that the overwhelming desire to create and to share, then you get where I reside.  For the end of one adventure only signifies the adventure of another. –Lee Stroud

It is better to light a candle than to curse the dark. – K’Naan

Don't just live, but live for a purpose bigger than yourself. Be an asset to your family, community and country. - Mark Owen

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. – Chris McCandless

I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth.  Then I ask myself the same question. – Harun Yahya

Everyone carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts. Do the unexpected. Find the others. -Timothy Leary

There is a battle of two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, lies, inferiority, and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth. The wolf that wins? The one you feed. – Cherokee Proverb

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours
as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole.
Then it stopped, as if it couldn't go further. So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors and
snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon.
 The butterfly emerged easily but
it had a swollen body and shriveled wings. The man continued to watch it,
expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge
and expand enough to support the body.
Neither happened!
In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around.
It was never able to fly. What the man in his kindness
and haste did not understand:
the restricting cocoon and the struggle
required by the butterfly to get through the opening
was a way of forcing the fluid from the body
into the wings so that it would be ready
for flight once that was achieved. Sometimes struggles are exactly
what we need in our lives.
Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us.
We will not be as strong as we could have been
and we would never fly. –Bella Dodds

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit it. – Greek Proverb

The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. –Pablo Picasso
